Afghanistan Government refusing to share details of Pakistani prisoners in Afghan jails

ISLAMABAD – Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs Andleeb Abbas toldthe House that Pakistan has been continuously raising the issue ofPakistani prisoners detained in Afghanistan. She said it is regrettablethat Afghan government has not provided information about the number ofPakistani nationals imprisoned in Afghanistan. She said the government isalso working on a MoU for transfer of offenders.

She said Pakistan Embassy and Consulates in Afghanistan, through othersources like International Committee of Red Cross and released prisoners,get information about Pakistani detainees and extend all possibleassistance.

Responding to a question, Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign AffairsAndleeb Abbas said that fifteen agreements and MoUs relating to varioussectors were signed between Islamabad and Beijing during the recent visitof Prime Minister Imran Khan to China.

She said the focus of MoUs is on enhancing cooperation in socio-economicdevelopment, agricultural cooperation, poverty reduction, strengtheningtrade and economic relations and expanding, ties in Science and Technology,Climate Change and Security fields.
