NEW DELHI (KMS): Senior Congress leader and former Indian Minister,Professor Saifuddin Soz has criticized Indian Army Chief, General BipinRawat, for trespassing constitutional limits by “creating havoc incountry’s constitution and its democratic polity.”
Professor Saifuddin Soz in a statement issued in Srinagar, said “I feel sadthat the well established institutions and their sphere of activities thathave also been well defined in the past, have now started gettingtrespassed by some people who refuse to appreciate the provisions of theconstitution of India, both in letter and in spirit.”
“To cite a case in point is the sustained rhetoric of General Rawat whofeels free to comment on situations of political nature and the General’sremarks often carry implications for the society, at large.”
Soz said the General tries to set a new trend that he is not bound by theRules of Business indicated for him, in the warrant of his appointment. Ithas never been the case at any point of time since India’s independence. Hedeplored that Indian opposition was not taking any notice of the General’srhetoric which certainly shows India in poor light, internationally,” hesaid.
“I feel doubly sad that ministers after ministers in the Modi governmenthave started accepting the Modi rhetoric on issues simply because theythink that the rhetoric might help them at the hustings.”
Indian Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat delivering a lecture at theInstitute for Defence Studies and Analyses in New Delhi on Wednesday hadsaid that Pakistan should become a secular state “if it wants goodrelations with India.” He further said the army could use drones in Jammuand Kashmir or in Pakistan territory as long as there was no backlash fromthe public or from the international community.
