Pakistan and UK ink long awaited historic agreement over prisoners transfers

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and the United Kingdom have inked long awaitedagreement of prisoners transfer.

As per media report, Pakistan and UK have on Thursday signed a prisonertransfer agreement allowing foreign inmates in both countries to servetheir sentences closer to home.

Interior Secretary retired Maj Azam Suleman Khan and British HighCommissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew signed the UK-Pakistan PrisonerTransfer Agreement in Islamabad.

According to the British High Commission, the agreement — approved inprinciple during British Home Secretary Sajid Javid’s visit to Pakistan inSeptember — restores and updates a previous treaty between the UK andPakistan, and includes strengthened assurances that all transferredprisoners will serve their appropriate sentences before being released.
