Right Wing Hindu extremists in India make life miserable for actor Naseeruddin Shah

NEW DELHI – India’s veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah continues to facehostile reaction form right wing Hindu groups, protesting and calling himtraitor over his comments on the Bulandshahr mob killing of a policeofficer earlier this month.

One of the groups asked him to leave for Pakistan.

According to Indian media an event at the literature festival in Ajmerwhere Naseeruddin Shah was to deliver a keynote address this evening hasbeen cancelled amid protests by right wing groups.

A member of the literature society told Indian TV channel NDTV the decisionto call off the event taken keeping in mind the security and safety ofNaseeruddin Shah and the venue.

Meanhiel, Uttar Pradesh Navnirma Sena has said it will book a one-waytickets for Naseeruddin Shah to send him to Pakistan.

In an interview on Monday, Shah had said there are places in the countrywhere the death of a cow is given more importance than that of a policeman.

He said there is complete impunity for those who take law into their ownhands.

Shah later said he fears for his children.

Following the backlash over his comments, the 68-yearl old said today: “Ihave said this earlier as well. What did I say this time that I am beingcalled a traitor? It is very strange.”

Naseeruddin Shah’s comments came amid mounting criticism over the UttarPradesh administration’s response to the killing of a police inspector inmob frenzy over cow slaughter allegations on December 3 in Bulandshahr.
