PTI government responds over media reports of handing over Dr Shakil Afridi to US

ISLAMABAD – The Senate was informed on Wednesday that no request has so farbeen received to handover Dr Shakeel Afridi to the United States and noexternal pressure will be accepted in this regard.

Responding to a question during Question Hour, the minister of State forInterior Shehryar Afridi said PTI Government would not make any compromiseover national security and every decision or initiative will be takenindigenously to safeguard the national interest.

Replying to another question, the minister said that for the first time ofthe history of Pakistan the government is working on policy to mainstreamthe local arms manufacturers. He said under this policy products of localmanufactures will be marketed in and outside Pakistan.

The Minister of State also informed the House that a policy is beingevolved for uniform number plates of vehicles on road.

Earlier, the Senate was informed that all possible efforts are being madeto ensure that the quality of edible items and food products is maintainedby the restaurants in Islamabad strictly in accordance with the prescribedstandard.

Responding to a question during Question Hour, Minister of State forInterior Shehryar Afridi said a fine of 11, 50,000 has been imposed against109 food outlets and restaurants in the federal capital for not followingset rules. He said regular and strict inspections are being ensured tocheck quality and prices of food items being sold in the federal capital.
