ISLAMABAD – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified that it hasnot extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the tax year2018 after the expiry of the extended deadline on December 15.
The Board said that the date was changed to December 17, 2018 tofulfill the requirements of the law.
FBR had extended the last date for filing income tax returns – fortaxpayers including salary persons, business individuals, the associationof persons (AOPs) and corporate entities- to December 15, 2018.
The last date for filing income tax returns was on Saturday, which is not aworking day. Under the law, if a date expires on a weekly holiday than itwill automatically be extended to the next working day.

Therefore, the return filing date was automatically extended to December17, 2018, which is the next working day.
