KABUL – Military air strikes in Afghanistan have reportedly killed over 20civilians including women and children, private media has reported.
Ministries of Defense and Interior Affairs have launched an investigationinto reports which say civilians have been killed in government forcesoperation in Shegal district in Kunar province, security officials said,Khaama Press has reported.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Kunar operation was conducted jointly byAfghan and foreign forces, but a spokesman of US troops in Afghanistan saidthey only had an advisory role in the operation and that it was conductedby the Afghan forces.
The operation was conducted in Shegal districts on Thursday night and earlyreports say that nearly 20 civilians including women and children have beenkilled and wounded in the operation.
“With those who did negligence in this respect or did not give accurateinformation will be treated based on the law,” Ghafoor Ahmad Jawed,spokesman of Defense Ministry said.
“A team has been assigned to assess the incident and find out whether itwas a mistake in air coordination or there was other problem,” said NajibDanish, spokesman for Ministry of Interior Affairs.
