ERRA likely to be merged with NDMA: Report

ISLAMABAD – Senate was informed today that a proposal is underconsideration to merge Earthquake Reconstruction and RehabilitationAuthority with National Disaster Management Authority to effectively copewith natural disasters in future.

During a question hour, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs AliMuhammad Khan told the House that a proposal to this effect has been putbefore the cabinet for approval.

State minister said NDMA is currently working in liaison with provincialdisaster management authorities to provide assistance to the people indrought hit areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

He said NDMA has also constructed humanitarian response facilities atstrategic location in Quetta, Jallozai, Muzaffargarh, Lahore, Sukkur andHyderabad with further facilities being planned for Islamabad, Muzaffarabadand Gilgit.

He said these facilities ensure the timely disaster relief is provided tothe affected population. He said flood fighting equipment reserves havebeen established in Rawalpindi and Abdul Hakeem city.
