NEW DELHI – In a new low India is using delaying tactics to open theKartarpur border with Pakistan.
Indian Punjab’s Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday has hinted overdelay in the project.
He claimed that the federal government has not sanctioned the fundsrequired to acquire land for the construction of the Kartarpur bordercorridor, according to The Hindustan Times.
“Government of India has not sanctioned funds to even acquire land there.How will we finish the work before November,” he was quoted as saying.
In November 2018, the Indian government had announced its decision todevelop the Kartarpur border corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in IndianPunjab’s Gurdaspur district till the gurdwara at Narowal in Pakistan.
Making the announcement, Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley said that the3-4 kilometre long corridor would be funded and built entirely by thecentral government.
The announcement was welcomed by the Sikh community in India and by thePrime Minister Imran Khan, who laid the foundation stone for the Kartarpurcorridor in Pakistan on November 28.
