CJP Justice Saqib Nisar grills Punjab government over poor performance

LAHORE – The Supreme Court (SC) Sunday expressed its dissatisfaction overthe performance of Punjab Health Department in connection with the PakistanKidney and Liver Institute (PKLI).The two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisarheard a suo motu notice regarding the PKLI here at the Supreme Court LahoreRegistry.At the outset of proceedings, Punjab’s Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid andSecretary Primary Health Shakil Ahmad appeared before the bench.To a court query regarding the PKLI legislation, Dr Yasmin Rashid submittedthat the draft had been submitted to the Law Department for the legislationpurpose.At this, the chief justice expressed observed that the same statement wasgiven on the last hearing.Dr Yasmin further submitted that steps were being taken to carry out thefirst liver transplant at the PKLI, inresponse to the court’s other query.However, the chief justice expressed annoyance over delay in this regard.Subsequently, the bench adjourned the case till the last week of February.
