Pakistan handed over list of 537 Indian prisoners to Indian High Commission in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan government on Tuesday handed over a list of 537Indian prisoners (54 civil + 483 fishermen) in Pakistan to the HighCommission of India in Islamabad.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Office, this step isconsistent with the provisions of the Consular Access AgreementlinkbetweenPakistan and India signed on May 21, 2008, under which both countries arerequired to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice ayear on 1st January and 1st July, respectively.

The Indian government will also share the list of Pakistani prisoners withPakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

Meanwhile in accordance with Article-II of the Agreement on Prohibition ofAttacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilitieslink between Pakistan andIndia, signed on December 31, 1988, the list of nuclear installations andfacilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative ofthe Indian High Commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
