ISLAMABAD – Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabolov hasarrived in Pakistan for a two day official visit.
He applauded Pakistan’s efforts in Afghan peace and reconciliation duringthe delegation level talks with Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, the RadioPakistan reported on Tuesday.
Bilateral relations, Afghan peace process and matters of mutual interestscame under discussion during the meeting in Islamabad.
Kabulov, who is on a two-day visit to Pakistan on Russia’s wish to discussthe Afghan peace process, will also hold talks with Pakistan’s top civiland military leadership.Video Player00:0000:00
The diplomat will be briefed about the recently held peace talks betweenthe Taliban and the US special representative Zalmay Khalilzad in Qatar.
In November last year, Taliban political envoys attended a conference inMoscow and sat face to face with representatives of the Afghangovernment-sponsored High Peace Council and Kabul’s envoy to Russia.
Last month, Russian Ambassador in Pakistan Alexey Dedov had said thatPakistan’s commitment and efforts for regional peace and stability arehighlighted by the country’s decision to open the Kartarpur Corridor.
