Gwadar to be made a modern port city

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Planning, Development and ReformMakhdum Khusro Bakhtyar chaired a meeting to review progress on Gwadar CityMaster Plan project here on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed AliHaider Zaidi, Commander Southern Command, Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa,Balochistan Provincial Minister for Information Zahoor Ahmed Buledi,Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan and other officials, said in statementissued by Ministry for Planning, Development and Reform. Director GeneralGwadar Development Authority, Dr. Sajjad Hussain and Project Director ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor Hasaan Duad briefed the participants regardingthe master plan.

It was agreed to develop Gwadar as a modern smart port city, keeping inview the international standards being followed across the globe.

Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyarinstructed the concerned to initiate process of preparing investors’friendly regulations and models in order to attract maximum investment inthe port city.

It was decided that Gwadar would be made a green, clean and environmentalfriendly city. The Federal Minister instructed that heavy industries andoil city be positioned away from the main city. He further instructed formaking necessary arrangements for provision of utilities as per the growthof this city.

He said that professional approach and due financial diligence would beadopted while developing Gwadar city as a state of the art town. All stepsto be made for acquiring land and other necessities in line withrequirements of the city development, the Minister instructed.

On this occasion, Gwadar port expansion plan was also discussed and it wasdecided that port plan will be incorporated in the overall city masterplan..
