ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has asked India to immediately send a delegation tofinalize a draft agreement in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’scommitment to open Kartarpur Corridor on the occasion of the 550th BirthAnniversary of Baba Guru Nanak in November this year.
In a press release issued on Monday, Foreign Ministry said Pakistan hasshared the draft Agreement with India through its High Commission inIslamabad.
Pakistan Government has appointed Director-General South Asia & SAARC asthe focal person from Pakistan’s side and requested that the IndianGovernment to designate a focal person in this regard. Prime Minister ImranKhan had inaugurated the ground breaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridoron 28 November last year.
Pakistan took the step to accommodate the longstanding request of the Sikhcommunity, especially from India particularly in view of 550th BirthAnniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.
The step was taken in line with Islamic principles that advocate respectfor all religions and Pakistan’s policy of promoting inter-faith harmonyand religious tolerance and also in line with Quaid’s vision of a peacefulneighbourhood. Pakistan would continue with its efforts to bring peace andstability in the region.
