PTI government contacts foreign governments for repatriation of 11,803 Pakistani prisoners in jails

ISLAMABAD -:Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis andHuman Resource Development Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari taking strong noteof plight of expatriate Pakistanis languishing in foreign jails, hasreiterated the government’s firm commitment for their release on priority.

Talking to APP, he said the government will utilize all available resourcesand channels for their early release.

He said the government is already in contact with the authorities in Dubai,Qatar and Saudi Arabia to evolve a mechanism for bringing back the jailedPakistanis, who committed minor crimes and could not return to their homedue to different issues.

Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari welcomed Bahrain’s recent decision to release12 Pakistani prisoners.

In another development, the Senate Committee on Overseas Pakistanis andHuman Resource Development has sought the complete detail of thearrangements taken by the ministry regarding repatriation of overseasPakistanis languishing in different countries’ jails.

Earlier, a report submitted by the Interior Ministry in the Lahore HighCourt had revealed that over 11,803 Pakistani expatriates were languishingin foreign imprisonments.
