ISLAMABAD – Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris has made a big offer toPakistan over the Naya Pakistan Housing Project.
He wants to make a massive investment in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s NayaPakistan Housing Scheme.
Sawiris, who is already engaged in the construction of a multi-billiondollar housing project in the federal capital, wants to help Prime MinisterImran in realizing his ambitious dream of a mega housing facility for thepoor.
Tarek Hamdy, CEO Elite States – a joint venture by Sawiris’ Ora Developersand Saif Holding – told this to Arab News during an exclusive interview.
“Naguib Sawiris has expressed his will to invest in 100,000 units ofaffordable housing to help Prime Minister (Imran Khan) in his vision towardPakistan,” Hamdy told Arab News.——————————
PM Khan, in a bid to realize his election campaign’s promise, launched NayaPakistan Housing Scheme in which he aims to build 5 million affordablehousing units for the underprivileged class of the society.
While many call it an ambitious project, Sawaris still thinks the scheme isvery promising.
“This scheme is very ambitious yet very promising for the people ofPakistan. I think all the developers should help in this scheme. You cannotsolely rely on the government to build five million houses,” Hamdy said.
He, however, agreed with the fact that such a massive scheme may take morethan five years or ‘a couple of decades’ to complete.
“I think the plan is right, but it has to be in stages, has to be in steps. It could be achievable obviously it is not the project (to be achieved) inone or two years… may take a few good years, maybe a couple of decades tobe achieved,” he said.
