Mobile phone prices go up significantly across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan has increased import duty on mobilephones by 15 to between 44-52 per cent on Friday.

Karachi Electronic Dealers Association (KEDA) informed that income taxrates on mobile phones imports, duties, general sales tax (GST), and levyhave been revised upwards by the government, adding that, a condition ofType Approval has also been enforced on the import of used mobile phones.

The KEDA President Muhammad Rizwan said the increment in the duties maypossibly hike up mobile phones prices by as much as Rs20,000.
