HYDERABAD – Programme Manager AIDS Control Programme Sindh Dr. MuhammadYounus Chachar has expressed his satisfaction over the performance of theProgramme and said that 46 HIV/AIDS Clinics and 56 test centres are workingin various parts of the province to facilitate the patients.
In a briefing organized by AIDS Control Programme Sindh in collaborationwith Hyderabad Press Club here at a local hotel on Tuesday, Dr. MuhammadYounus Chachar said that due to misconception, the numbers of HIV patientsare also being counted with the patients of AIDS.
He said AIDS was a disease while HIV is a virus which converts into AIDSafter passing its last stage.
HIV virus eliminates the immune system of the body resulting the eruptionof hidden diseases and the virus can be diagnosed through symptoms ofcontinuous throat itching, cough, fever or lose motions, he said and addedthat according to last survey, a total of 1,30,000 persons are the victimsof HIV virus in Pakistan.
In Sindh, he informed that since 1995 till date, 15,147 cases were reportedfrom different parts which included 14,908 HIV virus affected persons and239 AIDS patients. In Hyderabad, only four persons are victims of AIDSdisease and 545 are suffering with HIV virus, he added.
Besides Karachi, he informed that 46 AIDS clinic and 56 test centres of HIVvirus have been engaged in providing treatment in various cities of theprovince including Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Larkana.
Among others, Dr. Sikandar Iqbal, Dr. Nazir Haider Shah and District HealthOfficer Dr. Aijaz Qadir also shared their views about the causes of HIVvirus and AIDS diseases and precautionary measures for prevention.
