FAISALABAD – Pakistan has attained the status of 5th major sugarcaneproducing country in the world.A spokesman of the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI)told APP on Saturday that average sugarcane production in Pakistanespecially in Punjab was 695 mound per acre, whereas at global level, thesugarcane production was 706 mound per acre.He said that Pakistan’s status in sugar production was 6th place atinternational level.He said that farmers should adopt latest technology to increase sugarcaneproduce by brining maximum land under its cultivation.He said that from February to mid of March is the most suitabletime for sugarcane cultivation, therefore, growers should use approvedvarieties and complete sugarcane cultivate by 15th March to get bumper crop.The approved varieties of sugarcane include: CP-77-400, CP-72-2086,CP-43-33, CPF-243, HSF-240, SPSG-26, SPF-213, SPF-245 and COJ-84,he added.
