Pakistan and UK decide to enhance bilateral relations

ISLAMABAD – United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Commonwealth and UnitedNations Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon called on Foreign Minister Shah MahmoodQureshi in Islamabad on Monday.

The Foreign Minister underlined the need for increased cooperation intrade, investment and education spheres. He acknowledged assistance of UK’sDepartment for International Development for advancement of education andhealth sectors in Pakistan.

The Foreign Minister appreciated the invaluable contribution made by thePakistani Diaspora in the United Kingdom, especially in deepeningpeople-to-people contacts.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi also briefed him on the immense potential andopportunities for tourism in Pakistan and steps taken by the government topromote this sector.

The Foreign Minister also highlighted the grave situation of human rightsviolations perpetrated by the security forces in the Indian Occupied Jammuand Kashmir.

Lord Ahmad lauded the government’s reform agenda in socio-economic sectorsand recognized the improved security situation in the country.

He briefed on the prospects of post-Brexit trade and assured hisgovernment’s continued support in this regard.

He also stressed upon the need to further intensify cooperation at themultilateral fora, including at the UN and the Commonwealth of Nations, inparticular in the fields of cyber-security, environment and human rights.

Lord Ahmad expressed desire to work closely with the Government of Pakistanand the Pakistani Diaspora in UK to further deepen bilateral ties.
