Pakistan – IMF finally reached 8 billion bailout deal?

ISLAMABAD – Finance Minister Asad Umar has hinted that $6-8 billion dealwith IMF has almost been finalised.

He asserted that 70 percent of affairs pertaining to the InternationalMonetary Fund (IMF) bailout package have been met.

In this regard, the finance minister is expected to meet the ManagingDirector of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde inDubai on Sunday.

The economic team of Pakistan led by Asad Umar will try to persuade IMFrepresentatives over certain measures taken by the country in order tolimit fiscal deficit, raise tax revenue and implement economic reforms.

Finance ministry spokesperson Dr Khaqan Najib told that Pakistan has beenengaged in talks with the IMF.

“Video conferencing with the IMF has been organized on weekly basis,” hesaid, adding that pressure of external debts has begun to reduce due to therecent policies and efforts taken by the government.

IMF chief Christine Lagarde has already arrived in Dubai to participate inthe fourth Arab Economic Forum where the finance minister will holding ameeting with them.
