Claims of very high GDP growth by PML N government turned out to be Fake: Report

ISLAMABAD – Claims of very high GDP growth by the previous PML-N governmentwere proven wrong.

The annual GDP growth figures of the 2017-18 fiscal year were reviseddownward from 5.79% to 5.22% during the National Accounts Committee meetingin Islamabad on Friday.

The 100th meeting of the National Accounts Committee to review the finaland revised GDP estimates of for the years 2016-17 and 2017-18 was chairedby the statistics division secretary.

The provisional GDP estimates for 2017-18 and revised GDP estimates for2016-17 presented during the 99th meeting have been updated based on thelatest available data.

The special meeting was called to meet the requirements of the Ministry ofPlanning, Development and Reform for revised GDP data for 2017-18 toprovide them a baseline to work on the 12th Five Year Plan (2018-23).

The final GDP growth rate for 2016-17 has been estimated at 5.37%, whichwas 5.38% in the revised estimates, according to the Pakistan Bureau ofStatistics.
