Supreme Court announces verdict in contempt of court case against former Attorney General Irfan Qadir

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Thursday, wrapping up contempt of courtproceedings against former Attorney General Irfan Qadir, passed therestoration orders of his practicing license after 4-year hiatus.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, heard thecontempt of court proceedings against former AG moved by Mehmood AkhtarNaqvi.

Addressing the Irfan Qadar, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said that the licenseof respondent had been restored on previous day, however contemptproceedings were yet to be decided.

The CJP asked about the presence of the petitioner, Mehmood Naqvi, towhich, former AG informed the bench that the petitioner was not present inthe court.

The chief justice observed that in the matter of restoration of license,the contempt was just a part of the case. He said now as the petitionerneither present before the court nor his any adjournment application hasbeen received, so there is no need to proceed in this case anymore.

Subsequently, the bench wrapped up the contempt of court proceedingsagainst Irfan Qadir and announced restoration of Qadir’s lawyer’spracticing license.

Justice Khosa then welcomed Qadir back into the legal fraternity andexpressed hope that Irfan Qadir would have a good relationship with thebench.

Irfan Qadir, in response, also expressed his gratitude to the Chief Justicewho vindicated him after four years.
