German Foreign Minister arrives in Pakistan on an important visit

*ISLAMABAD: German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has arrived in Islamabad,where he is scheduled to have high-level meetings with the Pakistanileadership.*

Upon arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, he was warmly welcomed by the highranking officials of foreign office.

During his stay, the German FM will hold important meetings with politicalleadership including Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Matters pertaining to regional peace and security and the situation inAfghanistan will come under discussion during the meetings.

Earlier Mr Maas reached Afghanistan on an unannounced visit, to send amessage confirming Germany’s commitment to conflict resolution and economicdevelopment in Afghanistan.

Germany is part of the NATO’s Resolute Support mission to train Afghansecurity forces and has around 1,300 soldiers stationed in Afghanistan,mostly in Balkh province.

Back in the month of December 2018, German Ambassador Martin Kobler hadsaid his country was looking to import manpower by 2020 and Pakistan couldprove to be an important contributor in this regard.

This he had said in a meeting with Special Assistant to Prime Minister(SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfikar AbbasBukhari in Islamabad to discuss investment opportunities in Pakistan.
