NEW DELHI – Female foreign tourist has been raped twice in 24 hours, Indiamedia has reported.
A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 31-year-old man who claimed tobe a tourist guide whom she met in the pilgrim town of Rishkesh, theUttarakhand Police said Monday, Hindustan Times has reported.
The woman was assaulted by the accused Hemant Thapliyal on March 8 but sheregistered a case on Sunday night after which police nabbed him within sixhours, said a police officer.
The victim had come to Rishikesh from Kenya on March 7 to attend areligious event of a seer in the town.
“On March 8, while she was roaming in the town, she met the accused, alocal, identified as one Hemant Thapliyal, who described himself as atourist guide.
He then offered her to take her to visit popular places in the town on histwo-wheeler.
She went with him to a popular tourist spot named Neer Guddu Waterfalls inthe evening where Thapliyal raped her,” said station house officer, Muni KiReti police station, Ramkishor Saklani.
The woman was assaulted once more.
“The victim somehow came to the nearby road, but accused dragged her to thenearby bushes and raped her again. She then somehow escaped from there andreached her hotel.
Finally on Sunday, she registered a case against him following which policeinitiated an investigation and nabbed him within six hours,” Saklani said.
