SRINAGAR – Several prominent newspapers have published blank front pagestoday, to protest against denial of advertisements by Indian authorities tothe Valley-based two leading newspapers “Greater Kashmir” and “KashmirReader.”
The authorities stopped advertisements to the two major dailies a day afterthe deadly Pulwama attack, in which more than 40 Indian Paramilitary troopswere killed.
According to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the Kashmir Editors Guild hadearlier sought the attention of the Press Council of India and the EditorsGuild to exercise their legal, ethical and professional mandate tointervene in the issue and ensure that the media was not strangulated.
Condemning the ban, the Kashmir Editors Guild said the media in Kashmir isone of the most professional and has retained its neutrality even at thecost of lives, adding that the professional capacities of Kashmir mediahave been acknowledged all over the world.
