ISLAMABAD – Minister for Railways Shaikh Rashid Ahmed reached in TehranTuesday on three-day official visit to Iran.
The railways minister was also carrying messages from the Prime MinisterImran Khan and President Dr Arif Alvi for the Iranian leadership.
During the visit, he will call on President Rouhani and Supreme LeaderAyatollah Khamanei to deliver messages from Pakistan’s leadership, said apress release received here.
On Tuesday, he held a productive meeting with his Iranian counterpart,Minister of Roads and Urban Development Muhammad Eslami.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several issues relating tobilateral cooperation in the field of railways.
Upgradation of the Taftan-Quetta rail track as well as connection betweenTaftan and Mirjaveh were also discussed. The Iranian side showed interestin collaborating with Pakistan in this field.
The railways minister invited Iran to participate in the bidding processfor the Taftan-Quetta Railway Sector (ML 2) to which the Iranians showedinterest.
The Iranian side informed that Iran Railways was also improving its trackfrom Zahedan to Mirjaveh.
Sheikh Rashid was also given a detailed briefing on the Iranian railnetwork and technology by the Iranian Railways department.
