BEIJING – China will welcome all positive measures towards easing tensionsbetween India and Pakistan and promoting peace and stability, spokespersonof Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday.
“We welcome all positive measures towards easing tensions and promotingregional peace and stability,” Lu Kang said during his regular briefingwhile responding to a question regarding remarks from Russian ForeignMinister Sergey Lavrov that Russia was ready to play a mediation rolebetween India and Pakistan.
He said, in fact, China has been in close contact with both India andPakistan and making efforts to promote peace and facilitate talks. “We willcontinue to play sucha constructive role.”
Lu Kang said Chinese side has said many times that it hoped that India andPakistan, as two important countries in South Asia, would enjoy goodneighborliness and friendship and resolve their issues through friendlyconsultations.
“I have said that in order to alleviate recent tensions between India andPakistan, China is in close communication with both to facilitatereconciliation and dialogue,” he added.
The spokesperson said China would continue to play a constructive role inits own way in whatever that would help ease the situation and promoteregional peace and stability.
To another question he said, “Our principled position is that we encourageall constructive efforts towards easing tensions and promoting peace andstability in the region by relevant parties of the international community.”
To a question that Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) had adopted aresolution which commended China’s efforts for Chinese Muslims, he said,the resolution adopted by the 46th session of OIC Council of ForeignMinisters on March 2, in Abu Dhabi spoke highly of and fully recognized theefforts China has made for Chinese Muslims and expressed its willingness tostrengthen cooperation with China. The Chinese side appreciates that verymuch.
“Not long ago, an OIC delegation visited Xinjiang when they were in Chinafor a political consultation. They saw for themselves that local Muslimslive a happy life with good employment and full freedom of religion. Theyspoke highly of China’s ethnic and religious policies and recognizedChina’s efforts for preventive counter-terrorism and de-radicalization,” headded.
He said in fact, China enjoyed traditional friendship with Islamiccountries and has close communication and exchanges with the OIC.
“Under the current circumstances, China stands ready to work with the OICto strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the OIC and the Islamicworld and forge the relationship into a model for cultural exchanges andSouth-South Cooperation,” he added.
