Pakistan and Malaysia decide to take defence collaboration to new high

ISLAMABAD: The Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) of Pakistanand Malaysia exchanged views on issues relating to regional security andbilateral defence collaboration.

The 3th round of JCDC was held recently in Kuala Lumpur, said a pressrelease issued here on Monday.

Secretary Defence, Lt Gen (Retd) Ikram Ul Haq led the Pakistani delegationat the JCDC meeting, the highest forum of defence collaboration between thetwo countries.

Secretary General Ministry of Defence Malaysia, Dato Halimi Bin Abd Manafheaded his country’s team.

The meeting was significant as it was held as a follow-up of the decisiontaken during the Prime Minister’s visit to Malaysia in November last yearwherein both sides had agreed to explore and expand defence cooperation.

Prior to formal talks, the Secretary Defence called on Tuan Haji MohamadSabu, Defence Minister, General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, Chief ofDefence Forces and his Malaysian counterpart and discussed matters ofmutual interest.

During the JCDC meeting, both sides exchanged views on issues relating toregional security and bilateral defence collaboration.

The two sub-committees of JCDC dealing respectively with Defence Industryand Military Training Cooperation reviewed the progress since the lastmeeting and discussed new avenues of collaboration in greater detail.

It was agreed that cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia in all spheresof mutual interest, particularly defence would continue more vigorously byfocusing on achieving the set targets.

The Pakistani delegation also visited Defence Industrial Units of Sapura,Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC) and AERO Services (AviationCompany).
