India appoints Kargil War experienced Air Marshal as Commander of IAF WAC along Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Following the counter-attack by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) inwhich two Indian MiG-21 aircraft were downed, the Indian government onThursday replaced the Western Air Command chief Air Marshal RaghunathNambiar and appointed him as the new chief of Indian Air Force’s sword armWestern Air Command (WAC).

The new Indian Air Marshal took part in Kargil War against Pakistan,reported *NDTV*link.

The decision came out after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on February 27conducted strikes across the LoC from Pakistani airspace and shot down twoIndian MIG-21 aircraft that had crossed the de-facto border and captured anIndian pilot, which was later identified Wing Commander AbhinandanVarthaman.

The WAC is headquartered in New Delhi and controls the area from north ofBikaner in Rajasthan up to Siachen Glacier and controls almost 40 per centof the air bases of the Indian Air Force.
