Senior leaders of 21 Indian opposition parties blast PM Modi over using military for political purpose

Senior leaders of 21 Indian opposition parties who met in parliament todaysaid they backed the armed forces and expressed deep concern for the AirForce pilot who went missing during this morning’s engagement withPakistani Air Force.

But there was sharp criticism for the “leaders of the ruling party” for the”blatant politicisation of the sacrifices made by the armed forces” — aveiled reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who sharply criticisedthe Congress at a government function earlier this week.

In a statement released at the end of the meeting, the opposition said,”The Prime Minister has, regrettably, not convened an all-party meeting asper the established practice in our democracy”. The leaders, the statementsaid, “urged the government to take the nation into confidence on allmeasures to protect India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity”.

The opposition meeting at the parliament came this afternoon following theescalation in hostilities with Pakistan since yesterday’s airstrikes inBalakot.

India lost a plane, the pilot was declared “missing in action”.
