ISLAMABAD – Organistaion of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group onJammu and Kashmir on Tuesday gave a blow to India over Occupied Kashmir.
OIC Contact Group called on India to immediately stop the repressivesecurity operations against the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir andrespect their fundamental and basic human rights.
In an emergency meeting at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, it alsourged India to address the dispute in accordance with the relevant OIC andUnited Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on the subject as wellas the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, the principle ofself-determination and human rights.
Reiterating their continued support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, thecontact group called on the OIC and the UN Secretary to use their goodoffices to check the dangerous escalation by India, which is threat toregional peace and security.
The contact group was formed in 1994 to coordinate policy of OIC on Jammuand Kashmir.
Today’s meeting was called ahead of the 46th session of the Council ofForeign Minsters being held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The meeting was chaired, on behalf of the OIC secretary general byAssistant Secretary General Ambassador Hameed A Opeloyeru, and attended byForeign Secretary of Pakistan Tehmina Janjua and permanent representativesof Azerbaijan Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Niger. The meeting was also attendedby the president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
