ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the ground-breaking oftwo major housing projects under the Naya Pakistan Housing Program inIslamabad and Quetta (Balochistan) during this month.
The decision was taken during a meeting to review progress on the housingprojects being constructed under Naya Pakistan Housing Program, a pressrelease issued by the PM Media Office here on Thursday said.
The Prime Minister was informed that under the program, 110,000 housingunits would be constructed in two cities of Balochistan including Quettaand Gwadar, while 19,000 apartments would be built in 04 different projectslocated at various places of the federal capital in the first phase.
Secretary Housing Dr. Imran Zeb Khan while giving an update informed thePrime Minister that draft legislations for establishment of Naya PakistanHousing Authority, foreclosure laws and housing specific loans recoveryprocedures have been forwarded to the Cabinet Committee for LegislativeCases for its consideration.It was informed that all codal formalities for establishment of NayaPakistan Housing Company would be completed during this week.
Giving details of various housing projects being undertaken in the firstphase of Naya Pakistan Housing Program (NPHP), Secretary Housing informedthe Prime Minister that the Housing Ministry would be signing an MoU(Memorandum of Understanding) with the Government of Balochistan forvarious housing projects at Quetta (5000 apartments in Wahdat Colony),Gwadar (55,000 apartments) Fisher Colony (54000 apartments) and otherplaces of the province.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), 3,000 units would be constructed whereas19,000 units would be built in Islamabad in the first phase.
The Prime Minister was informed that another important project involvingconstruction of 30,000 apartments on CDA land near Chaklala was also beingundertaken.Another project on the prime land of G13/14 sector with a potential of 6000apartments was also being vigorously pursued.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the steady progress beingmade in the Naya Pakistan Housing Program and the huge interest beingevinced by the international investors.He said that Naya Pakistan Housing Program, besides bridging demand andsupply gap in the housing sector, would also act as a stimulus for theoverall growth of economy.Recounting various steps being taken by the government to facilitateforeign investors in construction business, including grant of permissionfor erecting high-rise buildings, the Prime Minister observed that focus ontechnology transfer, employing the services of local industries andutilizing local work force would not only create huge job opportunities butwould also boost all sectors associated with the construction industry.
