Supreme Court endorses sweeping powers for NAB

ISLAMABAD –Supreme Court has endorsed sweeping power for NAB in a casefiled by the National Bureau against Sindh High Court verdict.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday allowed the National AccountabilityBureau (NAB) to arrest a suspect without issuing summon or notice.

A three-member bench led by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh issued an orderstating that the anti-graft watchdog has right to arrest a suspect if ithas irrefutable evidence.businessSecret Offers Expire Soon! Click Here Now To Find!

“In such a scenario, it is not required to summon the suspect,” the benchsaid. During the hearing, the court expressed hope that the bureau wouldnot abuse the power granted upon it.

The decision comes amid strong criticism of NAB officials by bureaucrats,current and former government officials. The top court amended lawsapplying to anti-graft watchdog and gave the watchdog permission to arresta suspect without issuing a notice.

It is pertinent to mention here that the high court stopped anti-graft fromarresting suspect Syed Jalil Arshad without issuing any notice. The NABchallenged the high court’s verdict in the top court.

On the appeal of the NAB chairman, the SC clarified the detailed verdictrelated to the law of arrest a suspect. The SC bench comprising JusticeFaisal Arab and Justice Mazhar Alam headed by Justice Sheikh Saeed issuedthe verdict on March19.

Recently, former army brigadier Asad Munir committed suicide. He leftbehind a note, lamenting disrespectful treatment meted out by the NAB.
