Pakistan Foreign Office clarifies PM Khan remarks over Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Office has clarified that Prime Minister Imran Khan’srecent comments on Afghanistan have been reported out of context in themedia which led to unwarranted reaction from various quarters.

In a statement today, Foreign Office Spokesperson, Dr Muhammad Faisal saidthe Prime Minister had referred to Pakistan’s model, where elections areheld under an interim government.

The comments should not be misinterpreted to imply interference inAfghanistan’s internal affairs.

The Spokesperson said Pakistan has no other interest in Afghanistan, but topromote peace through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led political process.

Dr Muhammad Faisal said Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken personalinterest in facilitating the ongoing political reconciliation process andthe same must not be misconstrued to undermine the sincere efforts ofPakistan or to create misunderstandings at this crucial stage of theprocess.

He said the Prime Minister understands the plight of brave people ofAfghanistan, who have a right to live in peace after four decades ofviolence and war.
