*WASHINGTON: United States (US) Under Secretary of State for PoliticalAffairs David Hale says Washington attaches significance to its ties withPakistan.*
Speaking at an event organised in connection with Pakistan Day atPakistan’s embassy in Washington, he said Pakistan wanted close ties withthe US. He added Washington desired stability in Pakistan.
Former US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olsan said ties between the US andPakistan were improving.
He lauded Prime Minister Imran Khan for taking better steps for restorationof peace in Afghanistan. He also appreciated the prime minister’s role todefuse tensions between Pakistan and India, saying he was impressed withthe premier’s leadership during the tensions.
Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Dr Asad Majeed Khan renewed Pakistan’scommitment to regional peace and stability. He said the prime ministerexhibited exemplary leadership in the wake of Pulwama attack, adding Pak-USties were improving.
US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and CentralAsian Affairs Alice Wells and other US officials also attended the event.
Earlier, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Embassy of Pakistan inWashington to commemorate Pakistan Day.
Dr Asad M Khan read out the special messages of President of Pakistan DrArif Alvi and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan on the occasion.
