Federal government releases huge sum of Rs 374 billion for mega projects under PSDP

*ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has releasedRs374 billion (55.41 percent) including Rs160.3 billion foreign aid fordifferent development projects under the Public Sector DevelopmentProgramme (PSDP) 2018-19 against the total budgeted allocation of Rs 675billion.*

The government released a total of Rs153.6 billion (52.7 percent) includingRs25.24 billion foreign aid for development projects of various ministries,divisions and related departments out of Rs291.55 billion budgetedallocation.

The government has not released development funds so far for erstwhileFederally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), which is in the process ofmerger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K.P).

According to the latest data of PSDP 2018-19 released by the Ministry ofPlanning, Development and Reform released a total of Rs158 billion (85percent) including Rs120.2 billion foreign aid out of Rs185.2 billionbudgeted allocation for various development projects of National HighwayAuthority (NHA) and Rs17 billion out of Rs28.065 billion budgetedallocation for development projects of the Pakistan Railways.

The government released Rs28.55 billion (36.4 percent) including Rs7.3billion foreign aid out of Rs78 billion for development projects andschemes of Water Resources Division.

The PTI government released a total of Rs18.5 billon (59.8 percent)including Rs88.6 million foreign aid out of Rs30.96 billion budgetedallocation for Higher Education Commission, Rs7.91 billion were releasedfor the Interior Division, Rs6.33 billion for Communication Division (otherthan NHA) and Rs2.26 billion were released for Federal Education andProfessional Training Division.

The government released Rs965.42 million including Rs344.51 million foreignaid for Information Technology and Telecom Division out of Rs1.45 billionbudgeted allocation, Rs18.37 billion including Rs718.67 million foreign aidfor States and Frontier Region Division, Rs11.89 billion including Rs11.8billion foreign aid out of Rs33.37 billion for development projects ofPakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) and Rs2.06 billion for thedevelopment projects of Housing and Works Division.

The government released Rs2.73 billion out of Rs12.78 billion budgetedallocation for the development projects of the National Health Services,Regulation and Coordination Division, Rs2 billion for Planning, Developmentand Reforms and Rs12.6 million for Textile Industry Division.

The government released Rs407.3 million for the Cabinet Division againstthe total budgeted allocation of Rs1 billion. Pakistan Atomic EnergyCommission received Rs18.22 billion out of Rs26.7 billion budgetedallocation for development projects. An amount of Rs742.07 million wasreleased for the Aviation Division, Rs700 million for Climate Change, Rs1.5billion for Defence Production Division, Rs1.5 billion for developmentprojects of Maritime Affairs Division and Rs2.87 billion have been releasedfor Revenue Division.

The government released Rs17.672 billion (68 percent) including Rs2.2billion foreign aid for development projects of Azad Jammu and Kashmiragainst the total budgeted allocation of Rs25.86 billion and Rs12.6 billion(71.88 percent) including Rs932.9 million foreign aid for developmentproject of Gilgit-Baltistan out of Rs17.53 billion budgeted allocation forcurrent fiscal year 2018-19.

The funds are released as per quarterly ceilings; first quarter(July-September) 20 percent, second quarter (October-December) 20 percent,third quarter (January-March) 30 percent and fourth quarter (April-June) 30percent.
