COLOMBO – Days after the Easter bombings, Sri Lankan Prime Minister RanilWickremesinghe said Pakistan always supported the country in the war onterror.
In response to the questions laced with anti-Pakistan propaganda by Indianmedia outlet Hindustan Times, the Sri Lankan premier refused to pin blameon Islamabad for the recent string of bombings that left over 250 dead.
“Pakistan has fully supported Sri Lanka’s war on terror. If necessary, wewill seek their help to trace the terrorists and eliminate them. I see thistragic event as further strengthening the trust that exists between ourcountries and increasing cooperation,” Wickremesinghe asserted in theinterview published on Friday.
Although the Indian media franchise repeatedly tried to put words in themouth of Wickremesinghe about blaming Pakistan for the bombings, the SriLankan premier refused to toe the line.
“While we are investigating the possibility of foreign links, there is noevidence yet to suggest any particular country has backed these terrorists. All the countries in our region are faced with the same threats,” thepremier said in response to the query whether Pakistan was involved in theattack.
The Indian daily also quoted an unconfirmed report that at least one ofSunday’s suicide bombers received some training at a terror camp inPakistan, however, the Sri Lankan premier did not seem convinced to shiftthe blame on Islamabad, leaving Indian media in despair.
The e-mailed questions put to the Sri Lankan premier reeked ofanti-Pakistan propaganda as the Indian daily tried to link Pakistan throughthe nature of bombing, however, the effort went down the drain as well.
“Suicide bombings are no longer a trademark of only the LTTE. They inspiredmany international terrorist outfits who followed their inhuman methods. Therefore, while we can rule out the active involvement of any LTTEelements, we can use the expertise and experience of our defence forces indismantling the LTTE, to neutralise these external threats,” the premierresponded when asked about the Pakistan connection in the backdrop ofsuicide nature of the explosion.
Let it be known that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan had stronglycondemned the horrific terrorist attack in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.
