LHC announces verdict in case against former CJP Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry son in law

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday pronounced an order of declaringDr Murtaza Amjad a proclaimed offender, as null and void.

A two-member bench of the high court headed by Justice Malik Shehzad hearda petition of Murtaza Amjad, the son-in-law of former chief justiceIftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The petitioner’s lawyer Asad Manzoor Butt argued that the Chairman NABdidn’t approve a reference against Murtaza Amjad. The Accountability Courtdeclared him illegally a proclaimed offender on September 12, last year.

Murtaza Amjad was illegally taken into custody through the Interpol and theaccountability court on a plea of NAB issued his arrest warrant, which wasalso unlawful, the counsel argued.

The Supreme Court on a review petition in October last year had alsowithdrawn its earlier order of placing the name of Dr Murtaza Amjad on theExit Control List (ECL). The apex court had, however, allowed the NAB tocontinue with its inquiry into the Eden Housing Scheme scam.
