PTI stalwart hints at possibility of Presidential System through referendum

ISLAMABAD – PTI stalwart has hinted at possibility of Presidential Systemthrough referendum in Pakistan.

Federal Law Minister Farugh Naseem on Tuesday hinted at bringingPresidential system through a referendum.He expressed that an amendment would be required with a two third majorityfor this purpose.

The Minister further said that currently no such change in law is underconsideration adding that PM can get approval from a joint parliamentsession.

Talking to Dunya News, he said if presidential system comes inconstitutional way then it would be democratic too. If masses want apresidential system then government would surrender before their demand, hesaid.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari saidearlier that they would oppose any move to nudge the country towards apresidential system.

Rumours have been circulating in various political and social circles forthe past many days regarding a plan for introducing presidential form ofgovernment in the country and the issue is being debated on the socialmedia even though Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has refuted all suchreports.
