NAB Chairman chairs high level meeting at NAB headquarters, important policy decisions reviewed

ISLAMABAD – Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (R) JavedIqbal said the bureau was committed to eradicate corruption with absoluteprofessionalism, transparency and ensuring merit.Chairing a meeting to review performance of NAB at NAB Headquarters, hesaid corruption was the mother of all evils which undermines developmentand was one of the major hurdles in the way of prosperity and progress ofthe country.Since its inception, NAB had deposited record Rs. 303 Billion in thenational exchequer.He said NAB’s main focus was on mega corruption cases of money laundering,embezzlement of state funds, cheating public at large, housingsocieties/cooperative societies scams, fraudulent financial companies, bankfrauds and misuse of authority, etc.Combine Investigation Team (CIT) system had been made effective on thebasis of best practices in order to benefit from the experience andcollective wisdom of senior supervisory officers.This was not only lending quality to the work but also ensuring that nosingle individual can influence the official proceedings of NAB, thechairman NAB added.He said NAB had adopted the enforcement based approach in its fight againstcorruption. Special focus was therefore being given to Awareness andPrevention activities besides Enforcement policy to aware the peopleespecially youth at large about the ill effects of corruption at an earlystage.He said NAB during the last 16 months had received 44315 complaints whichwere almost double from the previous year. NAB had filed 590 corruptionreferences in respected Accountability courts during the last 16 monthswhich was an excellent achievement as compared to last five years of NAB,he added.On the basis of across the board accountability under its enforcementpolicy, NAB had not only arrested 569 accused persons but also recoveredRs. 4200 million from corrupt elements and deposited all amount in nationalexchequer during the last 16 months.The recovery made by NAB during the last 16 months has been then returnedto hundreds of effectees and some government departments.The Chairman NAB directed all the DGs to conduct complaint verification,inquiries and investigations on the basis of solid evidence in accordancewith law and ensure self respect of every person.
