LAHORE – An accountability court in Lahore has extended judicial remand ofPakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Member of the NationalAssembly (MNA) Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafiquetill May 2 in the Paragon Housing Society scam case.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed around the court where theKhawaja brothers were produced before the accountability judge oncompletion of their previous 14-day judicial remand.
According to the media reports, the court expressed displeasure over theNational Accountability Bureau (NAB) for not filing reference in the case.
Meanwhile, party workers scuffled with officers and security personneloutside the court.
Last year in December, the NAB had arrested the Khawaja brothers fromLahore High Court (LHC) premises when their request for an extension inpre-arrest bail in the case was rejected.
The Khawaja brothers have been accused of embezzling nearly Rs2 billion.
Earlier on Feb 2, the court had rejected a request made by the NationalAccountability Bureau (NAB) for another extension in the physical remand ofthe Khawaja brothers in the case and sent them on 14-day judicial remandwhich ended on Feb 16.
