Pakistan new foreign secretary to leave for his first foreign visit to this country

ISLAMABAD — New Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Sohail Mahmood will embarkon his first visit to Iran on April 21, local media reported.

The secretary will be accompanying Prime Minister Imran Khan during anofficial visit of Iran.

Sohail Mahmood has assumed the reign of the Foreign Ministry on Tuesdayafter retirement of former Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.

The visit of Prime Minister to Iran will help improve political tiesbetween the two countries and remove irritants created by certain elementsthrough obnoxious activities in the bordering areas.

Mahmood, who served as country’s ambassador to Turkey before proceeding toIndia from where he has been brought to the incumbent slot, understands thesensitivities involved in Pakistan’s relations with Iran.

Interestingly whole scheduling and programming of the visit of PrimeMinister to Iran was choreographed by former Foreign Secretary TehminaJanjua.
