*LAHORE: A summary to buy 77 new vehicles for the Punjab governmentofficials has been sent to the Finance ministry after initial approval fromPunjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday.*
Sources privy to the development said the CM has asked the concerneddepartment to appear before the austerity committee for the issuance offunds.
Summary sent to the finance department seeks release of funds to buy newvehicles for the parliamentary secretaries and chairmen of the variousstanding committees.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Information, Fawad Chaudhry and Spokespersonof CM Punjab Dr Shehbaz Gill in their separate statements had said, severaldepartments asked for the provision of new vehicles, however the demand wasrejected, owing to present economic condition and in line with the PrimeMinister Imran Khan’s austerity drive.

It needs to be noted here that the Punjab Assembly is under fire forunanimously passing a bill seeking a drastic increase in the MPs’ salariesand allowances. Prime Minister Imran Khan also rebuked the act after whichthe bill was taken back.
