ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Railways unveils plan to connect Gwadar Port withCentral Railways system of Pakistan.
Pakistan’s port city, Gwadar would be linked up with central railways toease the connectivity and reap maximum benefits of trade under themulti-billion Dollars China Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Pakistan Railways officials briefed the Senate sub Committee regarding theChina Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects on Friday that a railwaytrack would be laid from Gawadar to Turbat and Mustang.
The officials detailed that Railway was acquiring the land for the saidproject and working on the feasibility of the projects is ready. Theyinformed the lawmakers that besides the prevalent dangers in Mustang andPangore, the feasibility study for the project has been completed.
The meeting of the subcommittee on Railways was held under the convenership of Senator John Kenneth Williams at Parliament House.
The announcement comes days after Prime Minister Imran Khan laid thefoundation stone of the new Gwadar International Airport which is scheduledto be completed within three years.
Gwadar International Airport will be capable of handling ATR 72, AirbusA-300 and Boeing B-747 aircraft on domestic as well as international routesand is being established under a Chinese grant.
The Gwadar International Airport will be run under an ‘Open Skies’ policyand will also be capable of handling 30,000 tons of cargo as well.
