Malaysia s oil giant Petronas desires to enhance footprint in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Chairman Petronas Malaysia, Ahmad Adly , called on SpecialAssistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum, Nadeem Babar, here onMonday.

The visit of Chairman, Petronas to Pakistan is a follow up to the visit ofMalaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahatir Muhammad’s visit to Pakistan as thechief guest on the Pakistan Day Parade on 23rd March 2019.Both sides reviewed the existing cooperation and progress under thebilateral energy framework that exists between the two fraternal countries,said a press release issue here.Nadeem Babar, welcomed the visit of Ahmad Adly to Pakistan and reemphasized the strong brotherly and friendly bonds that exist betweenPakistan and Malaysia.He reaffirmed the special veneration that is accorded to Malaysian PrimeMinister Dr Mahatir Muhammad, who, the SAPM said “resides in the heart ofall Pakistanis” and is a “World statesman of great stature.”The Chairman Petronas reciprocated the feelings of warmth expressed by theSAPM and remarked that Pakistan is a country of great strategic value andimportance to Pakistan. He recalled the successful visit of Dr MahatirMuhammad to Pakistan and the need to diversify relations in the economicand energy sphere.He committed to Petronas desire to expand its footprint in Pakistan’s LNGmarket.Pakistan’s LNG demand is forecast to grow and mature into a huge marketthat would offer lucrative LNG supply opportunities to major worldsuppliers.Pakistan and Malaysia are already signatories to an Inter-GovernmentalAgreement on the supply of LNG which was inked in November 2017.
