*ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly adopted on Friday a motion to increasethe national and provincial assembly seats of the merged district of KhyberPaktunkhwa, which were formerly known as FATA.*
PTM MNA Mohsin Dawar introduced the Constitutional (Amendement) Bill, 2019to the NA speaker during the session.
Defence Minister Pervez Khattak said the National Assembly is going to passthe constitutional amendment bill unanimously on Monday to increase thenumber of seats for former FATA.He said this while taking part in the debate after introduction of the billat the floor of the lower house in Parliament.
The bill will be passed on the demand of the elected representatives andpeople of tribal areas so that they would not feel a sense of deprivation,he said.
The debate on the bill was formally opened by MNA Dawar who had introducedthe bill seeking amendment in Articles 51 and 106 of the Constitution.
He said he had suggested in the bill to retain 12 seats of the NA whichwere reduced to six after the merger of FATA with KP and to increase thegeneral seats for KP Assembly from 16 to 24.
Dawar said the Standing Committee on Law and Justice had approved the billwith amendments and proposed to increase the KP Assembly general seats from16 to 20 and NA seats from six to nine.
