ISLAMABAD – President Dr Arif Alvi has ruled out enforcement ofPresidential System in Pakistan
In an interview with FM-98 Dosti channel, he said parliamentary system isvery strong in Pakistan and there is no debate on presidential system inthe country. He said enforcement of Presidential system can create problemsin the country. He said powers devolved to provinces under 18th amendmentcannot be taken back.
Regarding economic situation in the country, Dr Arif Alvi said it iscorrect that inflation has increased, but the government is trying its bestto address this issue, which needs time. He said now the government isgoing to sign a program with IMF to strengthen economy. He acknowledgedtimely help from friendly countries like China, UAE, and Saudi Arabia tohandle economic difficulties.
To a question, the President said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor willbenefit the entire region as it will enhance connectivity and open up tradecorridors. He said interest of local industry will be safeguarded, whileallowing relocation of Chinese industries in Pakistan. He said only thoseindustry will be shifted to Pakistan which are lacking here.
Dr Arif Alvi said Gwadar Port will provide connectivity to central Asianstates and Afghanistan with southern countries. Besides, Pakistan and Chinawill be able to play an important and fundamental role for restoration ofpeace, reconstruction, and development in Afghanistan under the banner ofCPEC.
Regarding China’s role for resolution of Kashmir dispute and other regionalissues, the President said both Islamabad and Beijing share common viewsthat people’s sufferings and poverty cannot be addressed without ensuringpeace in the region. He said India is heading towards religious extremismdue to its internal political situation. He urged India to step forwardtowards peace and resolve Kashmir issue to defeat poverty, unemployment,illiteracy, and health problems in the region.
On a question about importance of Radio transmissions, Arif Alvi said rapiddevelopment in science has reduced the popularity of print media. He saidradio is the most popular medium even in the western world. He saidlistening to radio has been part of Pakistan’s old traditions.
