Federal government establishes fund for science and technology

ISLAMABAD – Transformers Roadshow was inaugurated in Islamabad today byPresident Islamic Development Bank Dr. Bandar Hajjar and CoordinatorCOMSTECH.

Addressing the ceremony, Coordinator COMSTECH Dr. Tariq Banuri said HigherEducation Commission organizes various competitions in cooperation withMicrosoft to promote the culture of science and technology. He said 232plans and projects were presented from across the country to participate inTransformers Roadshow.

He said a fund has been established to promote science and technology andinnovations in the country.

In his address, President Islamic Development Bank Dr. Bandar Hajjar saidPakistan is the third largest recipient of Islamic Development Bankfunding. Dr. Bandar Hajjar said a fund worth 500 million dollar has beenestablished by the IDB for science, technology and innovation. He said thebank is providing funding for sustainable economic development in theIslamic world.

President IDB said so far a funding of more than 12 billion dollars hasbeen given to Pakistan. He said 370 million dollars were provided forNeelum-Jhelum project in Pakistan while preferential funding is being givenfor CASA 1000 power project and development of science and technology inthe country.

Under the roadshow, twenty teams from across the country were selected forscience and technology contest.

The three winning teams from Pakistan will be given 3000 dollars each andwill be sent to Senegal.
