ISLAMABAD: Deputy Director General Nuclear Energy (DDG-NE) of InternationalAtomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mikhail Chudakov has lauded the Pakistan AtomicEnergy Commission (PAEC) for high standards in nuclear power plantsoperation.
During his four-day official visit to Pakistan, the IAEA high official alsoinaugurated a three-day workshop on ‘nuclear knowledge management’ at PIEASUniversity, Islamabad, where he delivered lecture to the faculty andstudents, a PAEC press release said on Friday.
Chudakov also visited Pakistan’s nuclear power plants at Chashma andKarachi. He appreciated that Pakistan was fully committed to the IAEA’sobjectives and was successfully operating nuclear power plants under theIAEA safeguards.
He showed keen interest in nuclear power programme of Pakistan andappreciated the high capacity and availability factors of Chashma plants.
He also witnessed the unloading of fuel at Chashma Nuclear Power PlantUnit-4. He was impressed by the skill and professional acumen of theoperators involved.
He praised the upkeep and equipment condition at the plants. He delivered alecture at the Chashma nuclear power generating station on the use ofnuclear energy and the role of IAEA in safe operation.
Later, he visited nuclear power plants at Karachi and praised the qualityand standard of construction work at the site.
He also keenly observed the physical security installation at KANUPP beingput in place with the help of IAEA.
Chudakov also visited PAEC’s engineering and manufacturing set-ups.
During his visit, the IAEA DDG called on PAEC Chairman Muhammad Naeem hereat the PAEC headquarters.
The PAEC chairman appreciated the role of IAEA in supporting Pakistan’snuclear power programme because of which Pakistan was now in a position tohelp other embarking countries in nuclear energy pursuit. He also presenteda shield to the IAEA DDG.
